The purpose of the study is two-fold. First, the study attempted to provide thorough analysis of ‘One Plus Three Model’ of Knight Commission. Second, the study intended to suggest what needs to be done based on the recommendations from One Plus Three Model to advance domestic collegiate athletics of the Republic of Korea. Recently, problems in intercollegiate sport of Korea have been raised as social issues such as illegal admission to universities and deprivation of right to study among student-athletes. In addition, sexual and physical harassment in intercollegiate sport teams have been reported through national media. Although the United States is known as a leader in intercollegiate sports in the world, it also had numerous scandals and illegal practices in intercollegiate sports. However, they tried to rectify all these problems mainly based on third party’s recommendation, which is One Plus Three Model. ‘One’ indicates presidential control and ‘Three’ includes academic integrity, financial integrity, and certification. This study offers recommendations based on what had been done to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) of the United States for the brighter future of intercollegiate sport of the Republic of Korea.
