The purpose of this study was to investigate influence of circuit plyometric training for physical fitness and athletic performance in collegiate basketball players. Fourteen male players were randomly assigned to two groups: exercise group(plyometric training group),and control group(normal exercise group). Before and after the 6-week training program, all the players were tested for the physical fitness test(20m shuttle run, sit and reach, reaction time, sargent jump, grip strength) and athletic performance tests(10m sprint, 20m sprint, t-run, illinois agility, compass drill). The exercise and control groups performed training sessions for three days per week, respectively. The results showed that the sit and reach was significantly improved in the exercise group(p<.05). The exercise group showed that reaction time increased from 0.34±0.02sec to 0.30±0.02sec after plyometric training(p<.01). Furthermore exercise group showed that sargent jump and grip strength were improved compared with control group after each training. The results showed that 10m sprint and T-run test were significantly improved in the exercise group after training(p<.05 and p<.01, respectively). Illinois agility test showed significant differences for post compared with pretraining in exercise group(p<.01). In conclusion, the present study indicate that the proper plyometric training may be provided in effective training for athletic performance in basketball players, as an exercise group indicated that exercising ability level was improved by specific training.
