It has been pointed out that the modern city has strengthened its connectivity to other cities and the local region in comparison to the traditional city. From this standpoint, the modern city needs to be analyzed not only as a individual city but in relation to the network and the regional sphere as well. It can be said that the city and the cities and the region that are connected to it by network form a spatial category, and Shanghai was not an exception in that it was a modern city that developed based on a typical network as well. There is value in the research task to focus at the present on explaining the local regional spheres that compose the network of modern cities like Shanghai. Then, how closely were Koreans connected to the spatial range historically to the network that was linked to Shanghai. In regards to this issue, this report analyzed the development of spatial perception of the city of Shanghai centered on the Koreans who emigrated to Shanghai in the early 20th century. Consideration was given to the process by which Koreans gained access to this city in the early 20th century and the changes in spatial perception that occurred in relation to the city during the process. It is expected through this study that interesting implications will be provided on the relationship between Koreans and the city of Shanghai and the process of the formation of the perception of Koreans of the East Asian spatial area as well.
