Primo Levi"s literary productions have been interpreted by many critics. However, these critics attempted to focus the meaning of his writings through the lens of his final act, as if the suicide serves as a master text that unlocks the meaning of all other meaning. Such teleological interpretations make us overlook the precious insight that Levi tried to transmit. Levi"s insightful massage is to comprehend and bear witness to Nazis" unutterably barbaric crime, instead of being outraged at it. For Levi, Nazis" cruelest crime is to make communication impossible, to prevent ethical use of languages. The lack of understanding result in constant conflicts among the prisoner of auschwitz and a rise in their animalistic and biological desires, and finally destroys all of their humanity. Therefore, communicability is necessary for the humane survival of a person and, humankind.
In this meaning, Levi says that his writings were born out of an absolute need for communicating his experience to his fellow human beings and to future generations. Levi thus gave his life after Auschwitz to find a concrete and practical way of communicating his experiences. Much violence in our society due to the lack of communication in our society. This is why Levi"s lifelong task is important. Both the victims and perpetrators of violence present in our society and run the risk of repeating the error of the past. Thus, unlike other critiques, this article aims to focus on how Levi lived rather than how he died, and on what he wrote, rather than the hypothetical contents of his suicide note.
