Most people who lived in the metropolis(Seoul) enjoyed the humor (myungrang) novel in the 1950s". Arirang, the popular entertainment magazine, which aimed for reading, treated the humor (myungrang) novel as the main narrative. The humor(myungrang) novel made the amusement because of the cultural gap between (American) civilization and Korean tradition culture. This gap was tremendous, many Korean thought that civilization was strange, ridiculous and abnormal. The best comic scene was made in the most strange and different situation. And the best comic scene was made in the married couple and the lovers. The life style of couples proposed the modern family culture and morals. The popularity of the humor (myungrang) novel is connected to the category recognition as well as the accepting structre for American democratic culture.
Gradually, the humor (myungrang) novel proposing the modern family culture and morals tended to make the radical humor. But it was criticized that this tendency was not bright. As a result the romantic comedy rose up instead of the humor (myungrang) novel. And the bright women in the humor (myungrang) novel changed to the devoted heroin. It meant that the modern family culture and morals and the gender identity had changed. Then it meant that the liberal democracy in Korea had dropped back.
