The purpose of this study is to investigate Korean mothers’ attitudes and motivations toward bilingualism in Korea. The subjects of the research consisted of eight Korean mothers who are sending their children to Korean public schools, kindergarten or daycare using single language. The findings revealed four core categories including positive attitudes of bilingualism, basic motivations, extra motivations, and family literacy practices. Basic motivations consist of integrative motivation and instrumental motivation. Extra motivations are composed of seven: need for achievement; maintenance of a native language, culture, and ethnic identity; language globalization; internationalism; attribution of past failure; international posture; fluent traveling.
