The purposes of this study are two-folds under the condition that the major urban subway station makes an important role in establishing the competitiveness of the urban metropolitan area of the city with a view to the post-modernism paradigm. First, the study analyzes the major factors for establishing the sense of place at Kangnam subway station district as well as the importances among those factors from the subway passenger"s point of view. Secondly, it also reveals the relationship between the major factors of the sense of place and the main facilities within the Kangnam subway district in order for introducing the policy implications. On the basis of the empirical studies, it is found out that the symbolic image factor has the first priority in formulating the sense of place in Kangnam subway station district. The physical factors such as entertainment, landmark, and transportation are regarded as the second priority. Secondly, it is recognized that factors of landmark and transportation are deeply related with the visit frequency of the main facilities within the district. Finally, as the policy implication, this study emphasizes that supports of the public sector associated with the landmark and transportation factors are essential for reinforcing the sense of place at the Kangnam subway station.
