In this paper, I looked back on the study of Korean classical literature that had been conducted from the beginning period and prospected for the future of it, giving more weight to the latter.
In the ‘retrospect’ section, I studied on the trends and achievements of the study carried out from 1920s through 2000s by the general overview on the history of the study of Korean classical literature, and found several problems and further tasks within it.
In the ‘prospect’ section, in order to ensure the desirable future of the study of Korean classical literature, I perceived the potential changes of the future and searched for the way of study that could possibly meet future demands. Here, I also suggested the methods to solve those problems and tasks found within the previous study, and discussed over their prospects.
The general characteristics of this discussion is as following: to live up to the significance of existence of Korean classical literature and its study, the discussion stressed the importance of the researches on the nature and value of literature and the intrinsic studies. Furthermore, the discussion emphasized the proper balance between various studies and the basic methods used for academic study.
