This study aimed to observe and analyze what strategies were adopted by senior students in high school during reading of persuasive texts. As for “My Wish” written by Kim Gu and contained in Korean language textbooks for high school students, investigations were made into what strategies the participants used to understand the contents of the writing and what strategies used to evaluate the contents. Depending upon the frequency of use of the strategy, the participants were grouped into two, and analysis was conducted of patterns in which the strategy was used; as a result, it was recognized that there was a difference in the utilization of the strategy between the two groups. Although all the participants were best students in terms of the subject of Korean language, there was a difference among the individuals concerning how they selected and utilized reading strategies. This study could take a real picture of the utilization of reading strategies adopted by the students and derive models using effective strategies in consideration for detailed aspects for utilizing individual strategies. In addition, it could be concretely known that the students would encounter difficulties while critically reading books. Such an analysis of practical use of strategies will be utilized as a meaningful material for hammering out schemes to teach students what strategy they shall adopt for reading.
