This paper examines determinants of attach rate and wage differentials of local university women graduates" school to work transition comparing with Seoul metropolitan ones. We use GOMS(Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey) 2008 produced by Korea Employment Information Service. Three employment attach rates (employed, employed by the other employers, and employed by giant companies) are estimated by probit model. Wage function is estimated by OLS, and Oaxaca decomposition analysis is used for wage differentials.
Our main findings are as follows. Firstly, we can not find any difference of three attach rates of school to work between local university women graduates and Seoul metropolitan ones, different from raw rates. Secondly, location of attended university is statistically significant in making wage differentials. This means LUWG can not get jobs with the same pay as Seoul metropolitan ones. Thirdly, we decompose wage differentials and find that the effects of different coefficients are larger than those of different individual characteristics between two groups. It implies the possibility of university location wage discrimination. Fourthly, efforts of students and universities for getting good jobs are effective in improving employment success rates and wages.
