Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of eccentric exerciser “Doligo” on upper body. Background: Office workers commonly suffer from musculoskeletal discomfort due to improper posture. Stretching is very effective to reduce this musculoskeletal discomfort. Method: Ten participants used “Doligo” with 1 to 5kg of weight to swing around the upper body three times with their arms up. Six muscles including Deltoideus P. acromialis, Rectus abdominis, External oblique, Trapezius P. descendenz, Latissimusdorsi, Erector spinae were measured by EMG. The amount of muscle activity was measured to find the level of exercise and temporal pattern of multiple trunk muscles. Results: Trapezius P. descendenz muscle was the most active and Erector spinae muscle was the leastactive. The involved trunk muscles were fired in sequence without overlapping. Adding 1kg weight increased the muscle activity by 14%, and 5kg weight increased the muscle activity by 69%. Conclusion: The sequential involvement of trunk muscles can prevent an excessive contraction of particular muscle. The circling movement induced the eccentric exercise that increased exercise effect ever with a low level workload. Application: This study provides a foundation to evaluate exercise effects of exercise equipment and their stabilities.
