This study attempts to colligate changes of Korean national identity with discourse on the unification of korean peninsular. It traces beginnings of the transformation from a ‘thick’ ethnos to a ‘thin’ ethnos in south-korean identity, that is also a process of democratic iterations. After then, it contends that this transformed identity would be a legitimate base for the unification of two Koreas. It finally criticize the discourse on korean unification which focuses on the national, cultural homogeneity of two Koreas.
