The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of exercise according to the application initiation time and intensity with the changes of neurologic motor, cognitive function and neuroplasticity through the immunohistochemistry study of GAP-43 in the cerebral cortex (pre, 1st, 7th, 14th, 21st) with experimental model of traumatic brain injury of rats. 100 Spraugue-Dawley rats were assigned to four groups; Group Ⅰ: early high intensive exercise (n=25), Group Ⅱ: early low intensive exercise (n=25), Group Ⅲ: delayed high intensive exercise (n=25), Group Ⅳ: delayed high intensive exercise (n=25). Before the rats were sacrificed at each time of measurement, three neurologic motor tests (Rota-Rod test, beam-walking test, postural reflex test) were given to assess changes in neurologic motor function. The Morris water maze test and BDNF immunohistochemistry in hippocampal CA1 region were also given to assess cognitive function among rats. In addition, the immunohistochemistry study of GAP-43 in discrete regions of the rat brain was performed to measure changes in neuroplasticity. The results demonstrate that early intensive exercise training group Ⅰ, there was lowest effectivness, on the other hand, early low intensive exercise training group Ⅱ showed most effectivness in all tests. Therefore, this study suggested that early low intensive exercise training may most effective protocol in model of traumatic brain injury of rats. And in selection of intensive exercise protocol in early stage, it demands great caution.
