This study is about understanding children"s spirituality and the Christian spiritual education of "Children"s Spirituality" Research which has been actively developed since 1990. Accordingly it is divided in two parts. The first part about children"s spirituality study presented the concept of children"s spiritualty as examined by the representatives of this research like E. Robinson, R.Coles as well as D.Hay & R.Nye. The common characteristics of children"s spirituality which the representatives share are as follows: firstly, spirituality is a kind of "essential human quality". Secondly, the spiritual experience comprises the "awe and wonder experience". Thirdly, "spirituality" is not necessarily identified with "religion". Lastly, spirituality can be fostered or restrained by environment.
In the second part about "children"s spiritual education" three representative types s of "children"s spiritual education" are investigated such as "liturgical model", "enculturation model", and "formational model". These models have common basic values like the "understanding of children", "epistemological premise", "content and method of education", as well as "core metaphor" in spite of their different interest.
With the research of children"s spirituality, the following results are found: the study of children"s spirituality has evolved from a new understanding of children, and continued to develop into the diverse area of philosophy, content, and method in children"s education. This means that "children"s spirituality" began to move beyond developmental understanding of children, toward a new perspective for children as spiritual beings. Further, the study suggested a new possible way, such as formational model, liturgical model, enculturization model, etc., rather than an informational model, or a schooling model.
