Davidson insists on "indeterminacy of translation". Futhermore convention is not a necessary element in language. And alternative conceptual scheme can not have its solid meaning. Consequently, he insists that conceptual relativism can not come into existence. The idea that there should be general agreement on beliefs between speaker and interpreter, and overall beliefs is true lies in on the bottom of this sort of assertions. This thought of Davidson also can be found in Wittgenstein. Particularly, "hinge proposition", what Wittgenstein talks about in On certainty, shows considerable affinity with Davidson"s idea. Wittgenstein claims that the truth of certain empirical propositions belongs to our frame of reference. Davidson opposes to convention but he does not deny that there should be general agreement for the interpretation. He thinks of the agreement as general agreement on beliefs, and this looks considerable affinity with what Wittgenstein refers as "hinge proposition". By comparing these two concepts, it can be helpful for the better understanding of the characteristic of agreement for communication.
