Shi Ping-mei, an famous woman writer of the 1920s China was at the same time an excellent teacher at several (mostly girls’) middle schools. But she only served as a teacher 5 years or so according to her sudden death in 1928 at the age of 27. Perhaps because of her short tenure of teacher’s office, she didn’t receive the proper attention she deserves as an excellent teacher aimed at the Enlightenment of women through girls’ education while being focused as an woman writer.
In this paper I focused on Shi Ping-mei as a teacher training her students both physically and intellectually. As a graduate from the department of physical exercise at the supreme women’s university at that time, namely the Beijing Highest Women’s Normal School(北京女子高等師範學校), she served as a physical training teacher at her earlier tenure. And because of her reputation as a writer she began to teach Chinese literature at the same time. She devoted her whole short life to the enlightenment of Chinese women through girls’ education.
In conclusion Shi Ping-mei made all her efforts to enhance the girl students’ mental, physical strength so as to improve the whole Chinese women’s situations under the old fashioned society. It’s a great pity that she died too young. But she harvested well in spite of the short tenure.
