Approximately 800 dolmens are spread in Hwanghaenamdo, North Korea. It has some features as below.
1) The dolmens are not spread at lower altitude above sea level areas like Jaeryunggun, Hwanghaedo, North Korea. That"s because the areas had so low altitude above sea level, that the areas must have been a sea at the time it was made.
2) The average size of dolmens in Baechungun in Hwanghaenamdo, North Korea is the largest from all over the country, dolmens in Eunyulgun had the second, and dolmens in Anakgun had the third position in terms of the size. It means that the large dolmens are ranged throughout the Hwanghaenamdo. The average size of the regions are above 4 meters.
3) From the aspect of the formal characteristics, dolmens in Seokgyori, Yongyeongun has only Capstone type(Chimchun type), and the others have the Table type(Oduk type). Table type dolmens have higher rates range except Hamkyungbukdo that have only 7 Table type dolmens.
4) The reason why extra-large dolmens over 6 meters have been ranged in Hwanghaenamdo is that it has wide plains for human beings to live well and go out into rivers or seas. Besides Table type dolmens in this area was made after the technique that handle the stone properly was acquired.
5) The large-sized dolmens in Gwansanri(in Eunyul), Yongdongri(in Baechun), and Roamri(in Anak) are located in upper region which go upstream against the rivers or the seas in common. It’s probably because they picked out a site which support convenient location for defense from the battle between the tribes.
6) Gwansanri(in Eunyul) was far away from Roamri(in Anak) for over 28km, Roamri(in Anak) was far away from Yongdongri(in Baechun) for over 90km. It can be inferred that there’s separate huge three powers had been formed in that times.
7) Dolmens that faced the capstone as a Turtlet-shell type were mainly ranged in Eunchungun and Shinchungun. They were commonly both huge in size, and engraved Cup-marks in it.
8) Dolmens which have Cup-marks were mostly ranged in Eunchungun. If there’s some dolmens together, the Cup-marks were engraved in the larger one.
9) The experts in North Korea insisted that the dolmens in Hwanghaenamdo were made in 4,000 B.C. The scholars in our academic world, however, placed the date of the building at 12th century B.C. at the highest estimate.
