This thesis made a profound study of the diplomatic space of Seoul based on Sino-Joseon diplomatic relations in Joseon Dynasty. A Joseon period"s diplomacy concept was "the tributary system(朝貢體制)" to do the Sinocentrism to the key point. The concept to be the tributary came into Ming"s period and the vocabulary to be the tributary was the compound word of the "ch" injo(親朝)" with the "heongong(獻貢)" and was set up. Ming recognized the tributary as the tributary of the outside(外交) with the tributary of the domestic(內政) for the fixation of the tributary system and the development of a tributary regime. The component of the tributary system are the "sahaeng(使行)" and "tribute products(貢物)’, and the component of the tributary activity are "sahaeng(使行)" and "reception for china envoys(使臣接待)".
Joseon arranged the experience systematicly if various diplomacy affair happened active confrontation for. It solved the problem to active diplomacy form(sahaeng) if the diplomatic problem happened between Joseon and China. Joseon selected the name of the sahaeng, organized the diplomat, selected when dispatch the sahaeng, analyzed international situation, filled in diplomacy document if the diplomatic purpose was set. The diplomatic activity of Seoul is relatively easier than Beijing of China in the position of Joseon. This does not have complex administration procedure of China and because Joseon mobilized all administration of Seoul.
The diplomatic space of Seoul was composed of the space of the diplomatic courtesy and the space of a foreign policy decision and the space of the diplomatic activity(diplomatic negotiations). The diplomatic policy was decided in the bureaucrat society, especially by the king. The "yugjoguli(六曹거리 : around the royal palace)", "Seungmunwon(承文院 : accomplish important to decision facility of a foreign policy)", "YeongJeopdogam(迎接都監 : the organization of staff for the reception of china envoy)" are most suitable if it sees in the side of the space. The space of the diplomatic courtesy in seoul begin at "Mohoagoan(慕華館)‘ and goes via the royal palace and finishes in the "Taepyeonggoan(太平館)". The space of a foreign policy decision was concentrated on the central part with the northern part, the space of the foreign courtesy was concentrated on the southern part with the northern part, the space of diplomatic negotiations was concentrated on the southern part in Seoul. Far from the royal palace was due to the security the space of Seoul comparing with China. Joseon based on at the international order(the tributary system) and recognized the space of traditional diplomacy.
