The purpose of this study is to observe the Form and Spatial Role of DangGa(唐家) in JeongJeon(正殿) of JoSeon(朝鮮) Dynasty’s Royal Palace. DangGa is a kind of DatJip, Also the DatJip was originally changed and developed by the composition of Buddhist-shrine(佛龕), Curtain-structure(帳幕式構造) and the Inside-wall(內陣壁). However DangGa has the different form with DatJip of the temple and has the different spatial structure which is iterative with 3 layers in the inside space of JeongJeon, composed the centrality in the spatial use. Also the spatial composition of the JeongJeon’s front yard organize the central axis.
Compared to the prior style, JeongJeon in the JoSeon dynasty had front 5-bay structure with 4-bay side and front WolDae(月臺, 越臺). However, from the point of practical use of the space and actual configuration, JeongJeon had 3-bay based structure. In JoHaEuRe(朝賀儀禮), one of the most important ceremonies that took place in JeongJeon, was the typical ceremony that showed spatial characteristics of JeongJeon. Triply overlapped space formed by a space surrounded by TwetGan(退間) where corteges and royal guards were stationed, ritual space(儀禮空間) surrounded by NaeJinGoJu(內陣高柱), and the center space covered by DangGa and BoGae(寶蓋), symbolized majesty of royal authority. In JeonJeong(殿庭) retainers circled around AuDo(御道) according to their social and political rank, and corteges and royal guards were posted outside rows. Therefore, inner space of JeongJeon and JeonJeong had similar dual space configuration. JeongJeon space showed the relationships between a sovereign and retainers, and made them to obey their lord not only mentally but also physically. It is very clear that JoHaEuRe took place to show dignity of the throne.
