Objective : Horn-Shaped Moxibustion(HSM) is unique method in Chosun-Korea. Moxa used in HSM shaped like funnel and it has empty space inside. This method was used from late 15th Century till late 18th Century.
There is few research or study carried out for this technic. Furthermore, a few people know existence of this skill. So I searched medical document containing HSM and sorted out the distinctive feature of it.
Method : For that, I searched medical text to define process of threatment when HSM was operated. and I made purpose of HSM clear in medical treatment.
Results and Conclusions : 1. Moxa used in HSM was shaped like horn in order to reduce pains caused by fire of moxibustion and pass tar of moxibustion to skins.
2. Moxa used in HSM was bigger than normal moxa. That can make higher heat. So It was used to trunk, especially the umbilicus.
3. HSM can cure diseases like stomachache with diarrhea, diarrhea caused by malaria, hemiplegia, the colic and fractures.
