The purpose of this research is to suggest appropriate directions for desirable tourist attraction development in the traditional culture district through the investigation of the local residents' perception of tourism impact and the residents' attitude toward tourist attraction development in Jeonju Hanok Village which is the representative Korean traditional culture area. This study focus on the comparative analysis of the difference of the residents' perception of tourism impact and the residents' attitude among local residents in four sub-zones.
Tourism impacts on Jeonju Hanok Village appear to be stronger in social and environmental aspects in the long run than in short-term economic aspect. Especially most local residents are not confirmed to perceive positive effects in the economic aspect like the increment of income and employment from tourism. And inhabitants are investigated to perceive the traffic congestion and crowdedness with tourists in the most seriousness among the whole tourism impacts. But it is a good thing that negative effects on Jeonju Hanok Village community in social aspect like crime, juvenile delinquency, decadent trend, extravagance appear to be slight.
The success of tourist attraction development in Jeonju Hanok Village depends on the guarantee of providing economic benefit to local community and the encouragement of voluntary residents' participation. In other words, it is just the local resident that is able to preserve traditional culture as a regional place asset the most effectively in the traditional culture district.
