This study examines how the residents of Jeongdongjin have perceived the tourism impact since the showing of a TV drama, <Moraesigye>(The Sandglass), and investigates the difference in perception of tourism impact by demographic characteristics of the residents and their attitude toward future tourism development.
More than half of the residents, who answered the survey, preferred the development of the area which gives priority to the socio-cultural or environmental impact rather than the economic impact. Residents of Jeongdongjin also perceived the environmentally negative tourism impact such as loss of the indigenous atmosphere and waste and noise problems. In terms of economy, they perceived both positive and negative tourism impact. The perception of tourism impact by residents showed significant difference depending on their demographic characteristics.
