Recently, vehicular sensor networks have emerged as a new wireless sensor network paradigm that is envisioned to revolutionize the human driving experiences and traffic control systems. Vehicular sensors are moving fast because they are equipped on vehicles such as taxies and buses. Data acquisition is hot issue which needs more attention when the routing protocols developed for conventional wireless sensor networks become unfeasible. In this paper, we propose a robust urban data acquisition approach, named Multi-hop Urban Data Requesting and Dissemination (MURD). It consists of a base station, several static roadside replication nodes and many moving vehicular sensors. Different from conventional vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) routing protocols, MURD uses roadside static replication nodes routing backbone realizing real-time data communications. The simulation results shows that MURD outperforms conventional V2V routing approaches in terms of packet delivery ratio and end-to-end delay.
