The purpose of this study is to analyze the design methodology of urbanized fishing villages with the natural port of fishing in the city. Fishing villages are distributed along the coastline. 'Urbanized fishing village' means that past physical structures are still remaining, despite fishing villages had incorporated into the city by urbanization, and that local residents are maintaining fishing activities as their own careers. Christopher Alexander's pattern language is the already well-known design methodology. Based on this theory, to identify networks through space and activities in Cheongsapo.
The results are summarized as follows : First, patterns which have a close relationship with urbanized fishing village are 56 in towns, 54 in buildings, 13 in construction. Although there are differences in the frequency, characteristics of the village is formed by gathering and supplementing of patterns. Second, 11 among 253 pattern languages, which are out of the context in the site, are excluded from the larger pattern or smaller pattern. Finally, the urbanized fishing village 'Cheongsapo' has the problem being gradually behind like other fishing villages. 48 pattern languages are discovered in the site, but they does not perform its role enough. Thus this study suggests the patterns that should be added or complemented with setting the category. And some patterns which are not appropriated for placeness of 'Cheongsapo' are removed. If the patterns are considered, it helps to preserve and develope 'Chengsapo' with the identity of urbanized fishing villages.
