This study looks into the pedagogical effects of speech acts in terms of EFL college students' class evaluations over 10 years regarding an English listening course. The college English listening class can be characterized as using two distinctively different teaching modes over the period: one typical EFL listening class where mostly topic oriented commercial texts were used; the other where various key speech acts have been incorporated both as important part of the main text and classroom activities. These two different modes of teaching listening were compared in terms of the students' class evaluations and they were statistically analyzed so as to see which mode is pedagogically more meaningful. The result showed that there were statistically significant differences between the two groups: namely, the mean difference was .37 at the alpha level of .042. In addition, this study has also analyzed the speech acts that the students chose from their favorite movie and presented as part of their course requirement. This demonstrates that taking advantages of using up-to-date digitalized data processing devices, students become able to expose themselves more to diverse speech acts.
