The popularity of "mandarin duck butterfly school" in the first half of last century has its historical necessity. The popularity of new printing technology provided the technical condition for its origination; the over-swelling urban development enabled the communicative author group of bookmen; the ever-expanding civilian leisure culture consumption offered the necessary consumption market.
Before 1949, people held absolute negative attitude towards "mandarin duck butterfly school". There were mainly two kinds of opinions. First, the literary works of "mandarin duck butterfly school" were regarded as the modern development of toxin in traditional feudal culture, and the presentation of sick psychology by New Culture Movement elites. Second, the revolutionary left wing hated the anaesthesia "mandarin duck butterfly school"posed upon civil spirit, as the anaesthesia in deed isolated and paled the wake-up call of revolutionaries to the public; the promotion of left wind literature was hard. It seemed mission impossible to earn an ideal share in the limited market, resulting from the overspreading of "mandarin duck butterfly school" works.
After the founding of new China, at least in the fifties, there were slice of memory on the release of "mandarin duck butterfly school" works. With the ideology of unification getting more and more strict, "mandarin duck butterfly school"became embarrassing historical trash. It was not until the "reform and opening up", did the "mandarin duck butterfly school" recaptured the attention of literary researchers. All indifferent eyes were added somewhat tolerance.
