A paper format for corpus-based approaches has commonly been applied in the classroom under the name of Data-Driven Learning (DDL). However, this kind of approach has a fundamental limitation in enhancing cognitive process since learners are supposed to explore only limited corpus data presented as a paper-based format. For this reason, a computer-format for corpus data is paid attention to, in terms of cognitive development. Learners are able to construct their methods of language learning and test their hypotheses through their own analysis of corpus data with a concordance tool. In particular, this kind of process can help learners develop their cognitive skills and abilities and achieve autonomous learning. From this perspective, the purpose of the study is to investigate how a computer format for a corpus-based approach can contribute to EFL learners' cognitive development and their subsequent language learning. To do this, two groups are examined: a Paper-based group and a Computer-based group. The former focuses on a paper-formatted corpus data approach, while the latter on a computer-formatted approach. The results of the study suggest that computer-formatted corpus data help learners enhance their cognitive skills and abilities and that this development contributes to their interlanguage improvement.
