KORAIL is performing localization of technology development policy, in phases, on high speed rolling stock spare parts so that irrationality of supply system from the original French manufacturer which has been continually raised after KTX opening could be improved. As a part of measures, we are promoting "technology development on braking system and brakeage for KTX, " taking 3 year-development as a goal from this year.
For success of this technology development, it is thought that current situation and characteristics of Japanese Shinkansen braking system, which is in contrast with French high speed railway, should be compared and analyzed against Korean high speed rolling stock braking system, thus it could be a help to Korean system. Therefore, this study will review the definition, legal standard of braking system in Japanese railway and the whole system in Shinkansen rolling stocks; That will be compared and analyzed with braking system of the current KTX, so that suggestions for the next generation distribution style high speed rolling stocks also could be drawn.
