The Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch of Dun-Huang Version has been called "Bad Version", because It has lots of illegible characters, miswritten characters and borrowed characters. Writers have founded a few interesting usages of characters in The Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch of Dun-Huang Version.
Characters of the same shape were used with different meanings in the other lines in Dun-Huang Version, and some shapes have not been found in any other dictionary on variant forms and any other text.
Especially the characters explained(belonging) in the latter case (not only) could make researchers confused because of similar shapes and (but also) could leave some doubts that those were not variant forms but miswritten characters because of unpopular usages, as well.
Although we have to continue to research whether those are variant forms or miswitten characters, If those were variant forms, The Dun-Huang Version could be called as a worthy version.
