Owing to generalization of design competitions since 1990s, point blocks which have various advantages such as townscape and view are increased. Despite of these trends, however, related researches are less focused. Based on these context this study is the most important purpose for analyzing and classifying point block plans in prizewinning and entry works of the Sejong City design competitions in furnishing basic datum for next housing design by understanding the recent architecture trend. As a result of the analysis, the patterns of point block are classified into 9 types : 1) ㅁ type, 2) L type, 3) Y type, 4) ― type, 4) △ type, 6) H type, 7) V type, 8) ellipse type, 9) curve type. And the layout patterns are grouped into following 9 types. 1) The type of layout slab block in one side and point block in the other side. 2) The type of layout slab block in the center and point block in the two sides of the center. 3) The type of layout slab block in one side and mixing of slab block and point block in the other side. 4) The type of layout slab block mainly and point block in the outer side partly only. 5) The type of layout point block mainly and slab block in the outer side partly only. 6) The type of layout point block only. 7) The type of layout point block only in the center and slab block in the two sides of the center. 8) The type of layout point block in one side and mixing of slab block and point block in the other side. 9) The type of layout point block only in one side and mixing of slab block and point block in the other side.
