The convention industry is one of those industries that require the highest quality service both in professionalism and diversity among various service industries. In order to successfully conduct an international conference, the government concerned as well as business operators such as travel agencies, airliners, hotels, shopping centers and other tourism-related corporations should provide all kinds of services from beginning to the end of an international conference. Therefore, establishing a system among these service providers may be the foremost task to be fulfilled more than anything else.
Boosted by the breath-taking economic growth and heightened national status in the international arena, Korea has extended international exchange on various fronts. And substantial development of basic industries for international conferences such as airline network, accommodations and conference facilities is keeping the number of international conferences held in Korea on the rise.
The Seoul Government is showing much interest in the international conference industry as ASEM 2000 is just around the comer, and a few convention centers are under consideration to be built in Seoul and other major cities of Korea.
Hopefully, holding ASEM 2000 will be a stepping stone on which Korea's international conference industry may develop further to be recognized as one of the best countries to convene an international conference later on. To that goal, both the public and private sectors would have to show more interest and do whatever necessary it may be. In addition, deeper and broader research on the international conference industry would have to be conducted.
