While facing the rapid changes in both domestic and foreign business environment, the construction companies have made various efforts to maintain and enhance the competitiveness such as reorganizing the business structures according to their core competences and modifying the marketing strategy. Information technologies(IT) have played a critical role in creating the efficient working conditions. But compared to the labors taken to the construction of IT-oriented systems, the detailed consideration to the process itself on which the information systems are implemented has been frequently overlooked. So the purpose of this study was to propose the process improvement alternative suitable to construction industry and the study was focused on three major management fields -time, cost, and material management processes- on construction site. For this purpose the basic theories for process improvement including reengineering were reviewed and IDEF methodology and process map were adopted as techniques to present the process model. The conclusions below were induced through this study. (1)This study classified the information from management processes on site systematically and drew major functions for process redesign by analyzing those information. (2)By tracing the causes of problems from the current processes, this study suggested more fundamental solutions to those problems through identifying the opportunities from IT and organizational changes. (3)Beyond the general process improvement methodology such as understanding redundancies in process, this study discussed detailed process including work types and work contents. (4)This study devised integration of processes and considered the interfaces of processes to reflect the interrelationships and influences among processes. (5)The redesigned processes could be expanded as the tools for continuous improvement and be utilized for development of construction management systems.
