In this paper, how modern novels received Jeju narratives is explored with focus on four literary works which include the framework of a narrative about Jachungbi, a native goddess of agriculture in Jeju. In Jachungbi by Lee Seok-bum, original texts from the Jachungbi narrative are repeated in therms of structure and motif. This is largely because of the intention of making myths of Jeju popular by rewriting narratives in a way of reinforcing connection and structure. Jachungbi, Jachungbi by Hyun Gil-un only slightly differs from the narrative in terms of the overall structure, however its motif-consciousness is radically different. This is because Jachungbi, a goddess of agriculture was modified to a "goddess of peace." Jachungbi written by Han Lim-wha emphasizes on the strength of women in Jeju by depicting women divers who lead an unyielding life despite her husband who establishes a separate home, however its fragmentary and planar structure leaves something to be desired. The Way Home by Lee Myung-in draws attention in that the writer tried to give it a radical change by utilizing a blend of Jeju narratives, but it can be a problem because the unique flavor of Jeju narratives is diluted. In the future, when a writer receives Jeju narratives in his novels, based on the accurate and in-depth understanding of the original text, he is advised to freely utilize its motif and scrupulously connect its popular orientation to physical problems in real life.
