The purpose of this study is to find out the housing cultural pattern and life style of Koguryo people through the wall paintings on me mound of Koguryo even partial. Thus, the study is going to analyze me characteristic of architecture, the architectural technique, and me style of architecture of Koguryo on the basis of his domestic life drawn on mural tombs of Koguryo. And I also try to analyze the facts mat architecture undergoes me change of scale according to the function of the room through finding out living spatial organization and architectural shape of space by its use which are shown on the wall paintings.
First, I found out mat Koguryo built the mound differently according to a mound. The method of building a mound had changed me plane and ceiling structure as time went by. This building technique is considered affecting Baekje Kingdom and Silla Kingdom.
The mural tombs of Koguryo is estimated as me tomb of me ruling class and it has structural differences by me period. Classifying the plane structure, mere are the mound which has side chambers at the front chamber, whose the front chamber is rectangle, whose the front chamber is rectangle or square and a width is like burial chamber, etc. Examining the content of me wall painting, the mural tombs of 4~5th century is represented his domestic life and his immediate family. In d1e mound of 5~6th, there has various pattern like Four Holy Animals, depicted guardian warriors as well.
Through these wall painting, I found out that wooden architecture which has pillar capitals had developed with ruling class as me center figure. And the origin of Danchung skill(a picture of many colors and designs) seems to come from Koguryo as a result of analyzing the coloration technique of mural tombs.
I've analyzed the housing architecture of Koguryo on the basis of mural tombs through subdividing into foundation stone, a pillar, building construction method, the shape of the roof, etc. According to this, I find out the living spatial organization and architectural shape of space by its use.
