Scholarly and refined literature is the most outstanding characteristics of Yi Deokmoo's literature and the important standard of his literary criticism.
His ideological base is the Confucian school of Cheng-Zhu Li Xue. It is also the reason why he discriminate against the Buddhism and Taoism factor at literary criticism. His recognition and criticism on poetry is closely related to his ideological base.
According to this paper, it is investigated that there are four characteristics by checking Yi Deokmoo's poetry. poetry recognition and poetry criticism. 1. Yi Deokmoo was a scholar known the spirit of times on poetry and manifested a strong awareness of the present age. 2. He all-embraced or gave up varied styles of poetry at the existing standard. 3. though the poetry was thought as one skill. Yi Deokmoo did not rigidly adhere to poetry forms. He agreed with the importance of individual artistic talent. 4. Since he suspected the concept which the poetry described human disposition, he separated the poetry moral character from the human conducts in his literary criticism.
The seek of scholarly and refined literature asked him to establish the important standard to distinguish and appraise the right and wrong, the gain and loss on poetry.
