The goal of this study, as a part of analyzing the thought of Korean people , is to suggest the analytical method of Korean music based on the musical characteristics of acoustic space of Jong-Myo jeryeak, which is the First intangible cultural heritage of Korea. The basic idea of this music is the idea of the unity of Cheon-Ji-In(heaven-天 , earth-地, man-人)and the harmony of yin and yang. The acoustic space technique which applies the idea of Cheon-Ji-In and yin and yang to music is Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique. In other words,the idea of Cheon-Ji-Inis a theistic christian world-view. Through this music which reflects the lives of ancient people, this idea which envisages an invisible fourth dimension world is applied to embody a visible world in which heaven, earth and man live in harmony.
This visible world is divided into three worlds, Sang-se(upper world), Joong-se(mid world)and Ha-se(under world). These worlds produce three sounds and have two spaces.
These two spaces, upper-and-mid world and mid-and-down world, are visible worlds where the unity of yin and yang is applied. Fourth Mode
Acoustic Space Technique representing the idea of the unity of Cheon-Ji-In and yin and yang,is expressed in the ration of 2 to 3. This golden rate called divine rate represents invisible God`s world of Cheon-Ji-In as three and visible man`s world ofyin and yang as two. This rate is shown in Natural Overtone, which is a natural voice created by God. While western music is developed horizontally, from the 1st overtone to the 16th overtone in order, Korean music is developed vertically and explained as the idea of the unity of Cheon-Ji-In and yin and yang, the core principle of the music. Therefore, Korean music uses Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique has the idea of Cheon-Ji-In and yin and yang in acoustic space of the first overtone(P1) and the second overtone (octave). In other words, in Jong-Myo jeryeak, Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique appears horizontally and vertically. Especially in Unison Octave tutti , due to Si-gim-sae of rhythm which has vertical structure, Major Second, Minor Third and inversion produce beautiful musical harmony within Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique. In other words, Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique is a tool for analyzing Korean music and is a vertical and horizontal space comprising Jong-Myo jeryeak.
This music is expressed by Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique which embodies the Trinity from the idea of Cheon-Ji-In in invisible God’s worldand the harmony of yin and yang in visible man's world. This shows magnificent artistic world where the presence of God is acknowledged and divine providence is expressed through music.
