This research endeavored to provide basic data for the use of the honey plant as a resource by investigating the characteristics of the ecological structure of the Hovenia dulcis var. koreana Nakai population through an analysis of its vegetation structures, such as the conditions of its location, its vegetation density, distribution, and diversity of species, and by comparing it with other species of trees that thrive along with it. Towards this end, 25 plots were selected, the vegetation types were divided according to plant sociology, and their ecological traits were grasped. As a result, the community of H. dulcis var. koreana Nakai was divided into the Quercus mongolica and the Sambucus sieboldiana var. pendula groups, and the former was divided again into the Platycarya strobilacea and the Fraxinus rhynchophylla subgroups. The forest vegetation of H. dulcis var. koreana Nakai was thus classified into one community, two groups, and two subgroups appearing as three units of vegetation in all. The results of the analysis that was conducted show that the importance value of this species is high in the tree, shrub, and herb layers of all the forested parts of the 25 regions that were investigated in this study, whereas the index of species diversity, which was mostly around 2.05 for other regions, was shown to be the lowest (0.52) for Jangsung. The species diversity index by vegetation unit was shown to be high (over 2.53) for the regions of Mt. Odae, Gapyeong, Mt. Wolak, and Goesan, which is considered due to the characteristics of mountainside regions as stable communities among the places that were investigated in this study.
