This study aims to explore first the causes of increasing rate of c-section from the point of women with c-section and then suggests the desirable birth environment. To understand these issues, 19 women and their 10 family members were interviewed. Each interview took about 2 hours and were transcribed.
Women and their family members perceived non-clinical factors contributing to high rate of c-section. Social factors such as profits-driven hospital management, convenience for medical doctors, defensive medical treatment in order not led to medical sues, excessive medical treatments, women's lack of information on different ways of delivery are suggested. For desirable birth environments, women and their family members asked for information about different kinds of deliveries, improvement of quality of medical service, humanized birth environments and so. To enhance birth environments and reduce high rate of c-section, the improvement of medical service and increasing care of midwives are suggested.
