During the Vietnam War, Vietnamese women were engaged in various roles throughout Vietnam. After the war, Vietnamese women created two women’s museums because the nation failed to commemorate their participation in other historical, military, revolutionary, or national museums in Vietnam. This paper discusses and compares Nam Bo Women’s Museum in Ho Chi Minh City (southern Vietnam) and Vietnam Women’s Museum in Hanoi (northern Vietnam) based on observational research. As a result, it is argued that both museums are a form of resistance to national public memory that has marginalized Vietnamese women. Theoretically the paper examines how memory is used strategically to preserve and forget aspects of the past. As a result, the museums are highly political spaces of knowledge.
