This paper aims to explicate the sense and meaning of 'travels' in Kim Girim's poetry. His 'travel poetry' have the various characteristics referred to as 'modem'. He made experiments on poems with cultural signs intellectually. On the other hand he took the romantic attitude dreaming of escaping from the modem daily life in his travel poetry. In the era of modernized transportation the space had been reduced abruptly. And the poet felt himself as a stranger and traveler in this new world.
He took negative view of the capital culture and ordinary order. But he could not imagine any possible reality beyond modem system. So he could not escape from it. Travels in his poetry are conduits through which the poet can get to the world in different time and space. This kind of poetic attitude might be the representation of cosmopolitan desire or the institutionalized escape as like a leisure excited by cultural sign.
