The cat expressed in modern poetry of Japan appears in various images so it is one of the most frequent symbols of modern poetry. The cat described by Sakutaro is considered by many to be one of the best images in modern poetry.
On the other hand, as compared to the poetry of Korea influenced by the modern poetry of Japan, we can find that the modern poetry of both countries have one characteristic in common.
The cat represented in modern poetry of Korea is less frequent rather than the cat in modern poetry of Japan, although there is a hidden character of the modern poetry of Korea.
In this context, this manuscript aims to analyze the poetry of Sakutaro and compare it with images or references to cats in the modern poetry of Korea. In conclusion, there is the biggest character in modern poetry of both Korea and Japan.
The image of the cat described in modern poetry of both Korea and Japan is a great symbol which is not just simple description but represents the poet's inner world. Moreover, the nature of that image is the expression of an endless anxiety in life. It is the most common poetic emotion called ‘self-pity’ for the modern poet. Also the poetry of both countries reflects the imaginative world of poets.
