This study aims to review Korean village studies. For this purpose, I devide Korean village studies into four types. These types are 1) village regarded as object of study-key purpose as data collecting, 2) village regarded as object of study-key purpose as research, 3) village regarded as locus of study-key purpose as data collecting, 4) village regarded as locus of study-key purpose as research.
As a result, from now most Korean village studies are village regarded as object of study and key purpose as data collecting types. These type of studies are consist of many cultural items and the contents of these cultural items are very similar between villages. And these studies get methodology of short term visiting and interview. So, the data get lost contextual meaning.
I would like to propose an alternative ideas to village studies. I propose that Korean village studies regard village as locus of studies and systematically analyse cultural items in there context. And I propose a methodology of long term participant observation. In this case, Korean village will be more systematically studied.
