In ubiquitous computing environments, people can interact with a rich amount of information through diverse devices distributed across the activity space. To obtain effectiveness and high quality of information that will enhance user experience, it is critical to shape information through content, resolution, format, and timing of delivery according to the dynamically changing contexts of user activities. In this sense, an information visualization method considering users' contexts will be a foundation to design interactive information products in a ubiquitous computing era. This paper introduces methodology to develop context-sensitive information products that can deliver optimized information based on user's contexts. To achieve this research goal, this study conducted the following: theoretical surveys to define context-sensitivity, visualization logic development to suggest methodology considering context models, and finally a case study to evaluate the methodology. Through the surveys, a context was defined as the selected user's mental model in decision-making situations. Based on this definition, a logic of visualization incorporating various context models was developed to suggest a generic methodology for context-sensitive information delivery. For a case study, a research toolkit, DIF-KMS (Design Information Framework Knowledge Management System), was used to discover, examine, and represent mechanisms of user's contexts and to explain interaction with interactive products. Modular Script Scenario Composer was used as a tool to reveal the mechanisms of a context, and Aspect Model Composer was used to extract and represent context models. A case study using a car navigation system served to evaluate and simulate the methodology for visualizing information in a context-sensitive way for interactive product design. Two situations of car driving, commuting and traveling were used to elucidate how the context models are constructed in interaction situations and how the models can be embedded in the design process. This research will provide a good methodological foundation on how design processes can be organized to develop information products in a context-sensitive way.
