The purpose of this research is to examine the effects of 12 weeks Pilates Mat exercise program on blood lipid and to provide the basic data of exercise program and exercise prescription to prevent obesity and coronary artery disease for middle aged women. The target testes were those who are middle aged women to participate in the public health center located in A city. The subjects were divided treatment group(n=20) was tested according to Pilates Mat exercise program but the control group(n=20) was not. Consequently the followings are the results of Pilates Mat exercise program three times a week, 60 minutes for 12 weeks(50~60%HRmax). First, in triglyceride, there was difference (P<.05) in treatment group, there was no difference control group. Second, in total cholesterol, there was difference(P<.001) in treatment group, there was no difference control group. Third, in high density lipoprotein(HDL-C), there was difference(P<.01) in treatment group, there was no difference control group. Fourth, in low density lipoprotein(LDL-C), there was difference(P<.01) in treatment group, there was no difference control group. Fifth, in blood sugar, there was difference(P<.05) in treatment group, there was no difference control group. In conclusion, 12 weeks Pilates Mat exercise program is one of effective method to decrease neutral fat, total cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, blood sugar and improved in the function of HDL-C. This Pilates Mat program is expected as a safe and effective exercise for health promotion in middle aged obese women by applying various Pilates time, repetition, interval and intensities of exercise.
