Lactic Acid
1) After the first set of exercise, there was a significant difference recorded between the two groups for the level of lactic acid but for other variables investigated there was no significant difference.
2) For the experimental group there was a large statistical difference between all of the lactic acid tests. Likewise for the control group there was a significant difference for all the lactic acid tests.
Glucose Level
1) There was a significant difference between the control and experimental groups' glucose level before and after the second test, however there was not a significant difference between the other testings. 2) Within the experimental group, there was a significant statistical difference between the glucose levels, directly after the first set, after the second set, after the third set and after the 10 minute rest. There was not a significant difference after the 20 minute rest. For the control group, there was a significant difference for all the testings, after the first set, after the second set, after the third set, after the 10 minute rest and after the 20 minutes rest.
In conclusion, for Taekwondo players with levels of high endurance not only is there a high level of maximum oxygen consumption but there is not an large accumulation of lactic acid. For an event with the high level of intensity experienced in Taekwondo competition, the ability for the body to prevent the accumulation of lactic acid is vital for excellent performance. As the ability to produce anaerobic explosive power is another vital skill required for Taekwondo competition, then the know how about training and its effects on lactic acid and glucose levels are required for effective coaching and exercise program development.
