The purpose of this paper is intended to discuss a syntactic analysis of Gapping and Conjunction Reduction in coordinate structure with "and".
Chapter 2 discusses a licensing principle of Gapping according to the recoverability and identity condition in the coordinate structure having "and".
Chapter 3 concerns some constraints occurring in the gapped coordinate constructions which have the following different syntactic types: (1) sequence NP's after Gapping (2) constituents structures of complement clauses (3) an ellipsis of the head of VP with a part of another XP ….
Chapter 4 deals with the theoretical problems of Backward Gapping and Right Node Raising and asserts the validity of conjunction reduction appearing in the coordinate constructions.
In conclusion, the three interrelated aspects of Gapping and Backward Conjunction Reduction are treated as the above contents in this paper.
