In 1960’s Kim Hong-seep was greatly famous as one of the judicial officer in korea. He had given a fair decision and exerted influence upon a lot of prisoners. Consequently his reception of Catholicism had great significance in Korean society in that times. And especially as one of the Korean Franciscans his ecologic divinity was similar to Saint Francis of Assisi’s.
Among the saints who had a special cult for nature, as God’s magnificent gift to mankind, Saint Francis of Assisi is deservedly included. Saint Francis felt united by a fraternal bond not only to people but to all creatures as well, as he himself celebrates with wonderful praise in the Canticle of Brother Sun. As Saint Francis provided, Korean Franciscans can conduct themselves spiritually among non-Christians in two ways: either, while being subject to every human creature for God’s sake, they give witness with great confidence to the Gospel life by their charity; or, when they see that it pleases God, they openly proclaim the word of salvation to non-believers that they may be baptized and become Christians.
