Emotions are normally conceptualized through physical responses, and color response in particular is an important index in conceptualization of emotions in Korean This study explores the color responses of body-parts in the state of eight types of emotions ('anger, fear, hatred, sadness, shyness, tension, joy, and love') and discusses their characteristics. First, the body-parts on which color responses to the emotions are shown are 'face, forehead, cheeks (pol and p'yam), eyes, ears, lips, neck, chest, and the whole body: and the types of color responses to the emotions are 'red, blue, white, yellow, black, alternating red and blue, and alternating blue and yellow: Second, 'shyness and anger' have color effects on the widest range of body-parts, while the aspects of color responses to 'anger and fear' are most varied. In addition, the body-parts and colors most typical of the eight emotions are 'face and eyes', and 'red and blue: respectively. Third, the Five Element Theory categorizes emotions and colors. However, it is difficult to find an explicit correlation between these and the color responses to emotions and body-parts found in a corpus of contemporary novels.
