The purpose of this study are to recognize the problems by evaluating the internet World-cup homepages and present the effective information structure.
The homepages are content - analysed, using Intercoder Reliability. The data is collected by investigating English and native language (Korean, Japanese) homepages of World-cup host cities.
The internet homepage has been emerging as a pivotal tool for the tourists to get the information. Regarding with that, 2002 worldcup homepages are expected to play an important role in offering information for the tourists as well as establishing marketing strategy for the marketers. Through this study, the results could elaborate the homepage and improve the quality of the information structure.
The results of the analysis revealed the followings:
First group refers to the information structure of the homepages.
1) The sites need to be offered in several additional language such as English and Chinese. 2) The spelling of some cities in the address are not consistent with the standard language. They should be corrected. 3) The worldcup homepages should be conveniently organised in framing the tourism or regional information. 4) Asking for feedback in terms of further information will be helpful for the improvement of homepages. Thus, email and telephone number should be specified.
The second portion of the results refer to the worldcup and tourism information analysis. 1) The information about worldcup overview should be unified through 20 host cities. Thus, the database need to be developed by the central office. 2) Necessary items related to travel information need to be supplied. 3) More diversified and specified information are offered. 4) Designing and structuring the contents of homepages must be user- friendly, not supplier-oriented.
Since the study is Quite suggestive for the upcoming world-cup event, the period of the study has been limited from September to November 2000. Thus, Busan and Osaka homepages that were under construction during the period excluded from the analysis. Also most of the world-cup homepages are the submenus of the city homepages. Therefore, the analysis has been performed from the link service of KOWOC.
Further studies need to analyse the submenus of homepages in detail when they are completed in information structuring. Recognizing the marketing strategy as an advertisement tool of the homepages, it will provide the basic idea for the study of electronic commerce.
