Today, according to post-modem conditions there are tries to understand East Asia as a community and to see into its future. But they are attended with difficulties and limits. This situation is caused by the fact that the East Asia presented by us is actually a expression of historical tracks, concerns, standpoints and inter est relations which are developed within this tracks. This paper is an attempt to trace the whole situation of their expression & to answer the question which meaning today they have in considering the East Asia as a community. To put it concretely, this paper will inquire into the questions; how each nation in the East Asia interpreted itself and the East Asia, while developing a idea of spiritual and moral superiorities in the new transitional period; how it, through wars and through becoming aware of being the yellow race, realized itself and the other; especially how it, while becoming not only victim but also perpetrator, developed a horizon of an East Asia in the era of violence and aggression. By doing so, this paper will reconstruct the present meaning of a East Asia and raise the following questions: Is there really something intrinsic in the East Asia to consider the East Asia as a community in comparison to Europe(European Union)? Don't we need to free ourselves from the history if it is too burdensome or bring disadvantage (Nachteil) in visualizing the East Asia as a community?
